Acidified Copper Sulfate

Directions for use

Acidified Copper Sulfate (ACS) is used as an antimicrobial to sanitize water lines and waterers for poultry. It can also be used as a preventative and treatment for blackhead (histomoniasis) in turkeys and canker (trichomonosis), and crop fungus in chickens.

Oral lesion appearance

Patches of raised, whitish, dead epithelial debris. The top white pseudomembranes can be wiped off.

Sticky, yellowish-white ‘canker-like’ masses of caseous, necrotic material.

More likely to occur following

Prolonged antibiotic therapy, concurrent disease, infestation with internal or external parasites, or stressful event.

Pigeons and doves sharing the same water or feed source.

Treatment

Nystatin, copper sulfate

Metronidazole, thyme extract

MANUFACTURER’S DIRECTIONS FOR USE:

For drinking water add 1 pound (16oz) per 256 gallons of water.

Translation for poultry:

1oz of acidified copper sulfate (ACS) per 16 gallons of water which is equivalent to 0.0625oz of acidified copper sulfate per gallon of water (= approximately ¼ teaspoon ACS to 1 gallon of water).

Administer as outlined above 3 to 5 consecutive days, making sure previous day’s water with ACS is dumped and fresh water and ACS is given each day.
